In combination with the black nickel plating, a completely new sound spectrum is created. Another important advantage is the reduced weight and the high stability. Nickel silver adapts to and conducts changing frequencies faster than other material, resulting in a very direct response, and a well centred and extremely powerful sound. The new Keilwerth "Shadow" saxophone combines the advantages of nickel silver with those of a black nickel plated finish. With a black nickel plated body made from nickel silver, silver plated keys, and sophisticated engraving on body and bow this saxophone not only has an extraordinary appearance, it also features a new, ergonomically adapted keywork. If you really want a certain horn and you are able to do it, travel to test it out.The saxophone manufacturer Julius Keilwerth presents the new SX 90 R "Shadow" model saxophone. Play as many horns as you can get your hands on in your area to get a feel for what you are looking for. I really do recommend playing a horn before you buy unless you are the kind of person who is comfortable selling a horn you do not like, most likely at a loss. Both horns have a beefy tone and a huge dynamic range. It is not a bad horn in any way, it just suffers in comparison to my Vintage which for me is really dialed in to what I want. It is stunning in every respect and that explains why I have not sold it. I must admit the Shadow is one of the most beautiful horns I have ever laid my eyes on. However, I have not played many examples of SX90Rs so this may be unique to the two examples I own and not something attributed to the material of the horn or finish. I find the Shadow kind of one dimensional sounding in comparison. I own an SX90R Shadow and an SX90R Vintage tenor. ![]()
